Months Before
• Announce the engagement

• Consider hiring a wedding consultant
and/or wedding planner

for invitations, gifts, and thank you notes so that
no one gets left out
• Select bridal gown, veil, and accessories,
then schedule custom fittings
• Choose bridesmaid gowns and men’s formal wear
• Select a photographer, videographer, and florist
• Consider what types of music or special songs
you might want played at the ceremony or reception

Months Before
• Order invitations, announcements, thank you notes,
and personal stationery
• Meet with cleric to select ceremony service and
discuss any premarital requirements they might have
• Consider writing parts of your ceremony such as the
wedding vows or adding your favorite romantic poem
• Make honeymoon plans and reservations
• Help the mother of the bride and mother of the groom
select their dresses or attire
• Shop for items for your trousseau and furniture
or items for your new home
• Make plans and reservations for the rehearsal dinner

Months Before
• Purchase wedding bands and order engraving
• Address wedding invitations and announcements
• Select gifts for bridal party attendants
• Plan a bridesmaid’s luncheon
• Choose a friend or relative to help keep up with the
wedding guest book and encourage all guests to sign it
• Select some hotel options for out-of-town guests
• Purchase guest book, cake knife and any other
desired wedding accessories
• Arrange for limo service or other special transportation
desired to or from the reception

Months Before
• Mail invitations
• Obtain marriage license
(check laws of state for number of days license is valid)
• Write thank you notes as gifts arrive
• Bride and groom purchase memento wedding gifts
for each other
• Design a wedding program or have a friend
create one for you
• Schedule appointment with hairdresser for the big day
and possibly schedule a practice styling session to
decide how you want to style your hair around your
headpiece or veil
• Schedule final dress fittings
• Update bridal registry gift lists
• Consider taking professional dance lessons as a couple
to prepare for the reception
2 Weeks Before
• Make arrangements for changing your name on
Social Security Card, driver license, bank accounts,
credit card, insurance, etc.
• Arrange to move belongings to your new home

• Greet out of town guests
• Pack a wedding survival kit for dressing at the
wedding site (spare hose, bridal accessories, hairspray,
hair pins, make up kit, safety pins, and any other
emergency or last minute items you might need)
• Attend rehearsal and rehearsal dinner
• Try to get a good night sleep
